II.    Mechanics Lien and Title 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

  • An Analysis of Mechanic’s liens and the Impact on the Title to Property

III.   Other Civil Actions and Title3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • An Analysis of various Civil Actions Related to Real Estate including Adverse Possession, Quiet Title, Partition Actions, Specific Performance and other miscellaneous actions.

IV.   Case Law and the Title Policy 1:15 p.m. to 2:15p.m.

  • An Analysis of case law related to the Title Policy.

V.    Bankruptcy and Title 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

  • An Analysis of Bankruptcy as it is related to and affecting Real Estate and Title.

VI.   Probate and Title 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

  • An Analysis of Probate Actions Related to Real Estate and their Effect on Title to Property.

 

WHO

Mike Copley of Kegler, Brown, Hill & Ritter. Mr. Copley’s primary focus in his practice is litigation of real estate title and construction contract disputes. His practice includes transactional matters pertaining to contracts and general commercial collection matters as well. He has vast experience managing and litigating numerous complex construction and aerospace cases before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals (ASBCA). He was appointed to defend some of the United States Air Force’s most challenging construction and aerospace cases. He litigated and won an $18.2 million case and a $20 million case on behalf of the Air Force. Mr. Copley has extensive experience litigating title disputes to include various types of easement, one-witness mortgage claims, Fraud. He earned his law degree at Capital University Law School and a B.S. from Troy State University. He is a member of the Columbus Ohio State and American Bar Association. Mr. Copley is a member of the Columbus Ohio State and American Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in all courts in the State of Ohio and the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio. Mr. Copley is currently in the Ohio National Guard.

John J. Joseph is a partner in the law firm of Joseph & Joseph where he practices in the areas of real estate; business litigation and general practice. Education: The Ohio State University (B.S. summa cum laude, 1978; J.D. (with honors in law, 1981). Listed in Best Lawyers in America 1992-to present. Listed in the Bar Register of Pre-Eminent Lawyers by Martindale -Hubbell; Member: Columbus Committee on Real Property and Financial Institutions,1985-Chairman Real Property Law Institute 1989-1990, Chairman Real Property Committee 1991, 1992; Ohio State Member Real Property Section and American Member Sections on Real Property and Trust Law, Corporation, Banking and Business Bar Law, Bar l estate law before the National Judicial College and the Ohio Society of CPAs

JAMES B. FEIBEL is a partner with the law firm of Benesch Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff LLP in Columbus, Ohio, having just completed a 15-year term as partner-in-charge of the Columbus office. Mr. Feibel graduated from Yale University with a BA in English in 1955, and from the University of Michigan Law School with a JD in 1959, and was elected to The Order of the Coif. Mr. Feibel is a member of his firm’s Real Estate Practice Group and Estate Planning and Probate Practice Group, and has more than 40 years’ experience in wealth transfer, estate planning and in probate administration and estate taxation, specializing in the creative use of trust and personal and charitable giving as wealth transfer planning techniques. Mr. Feibel has acted as Special Counsel to the Ohio State Teachers Retirement System, and to the Charitable Trusts Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s office, and has lectured extensively throughout Ohio on the subjects of estate and charitable gift planning before legal continuing education and community groups.

Thomas R. McGrath of McGrath & Breitfeller LLP. Mr McGrath has practice in the areas of litigation, title insurance and real estate law for over twenty-five years and is now managing partner of McGrath & Breitfeller, LLP. He is rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell. In addition to his practice, he has been active in a number of professional organizations and has lectured across the United States. Mr. McGrath is a member of The Association of Trail Lawyers of America, The American Bar Association (past chair, Title Insurance Litigation Committee of Tort & insurance Practice) Ohio State Bar Association (Real Property Committee), Franklin County Trial Lawyers Association, Columbus Bar Association (Real Property, Fee Arbitration, Court of Common Please, and Solo and Small Firm Committees)
